Our story
“Where words fail music speaks”
Hospice Harmony Choir was formed in 2021 as a community choir by St Barnabas House Hospice under the leadership of Matt Bamford and Wendy Bardsley, with most of its members having a connection to St Barnabas or Chestnut Tree House, whether as an employee, a volunteer, or by knowing someone who has been under the care of the Hospices.
Towards the end of 2022, Matt had to pass the baton on to a new Music Director (due to his work commitments), and the choir chose Lucy Goldberg to take over his role. Lucy and the Committee currently manage all aspects of the choir.
Hospice Harmony Choir is affiliated to both St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House Hospices. The main aims of the choir are to unite people within the Hospices’ community through the power and joy of music, to promote the many mental, physical and social benefits associated with group singing, and to support the wonderful work of the Hospices.
To date we have raised £6,000 for St Barnabas and Chestnut Tree House. We have a wide-ranging repertoire including jazz, musicals, gospel, folk and popular.
Lucy Goldberg
Lucy has been playing the piano since the age of six and has taken all the graded exams for both classical and jazz. She is also a classically trained singer. Lucy does a variety of freelance work as a musician, including as a solo piano performer and accompanist — she is also Music Director for two other local choirs.
Matt Bamford
Matt co-founded the choir in 2021 and led it as Music Director until the end of 2022. He continues to support the choir as an Advisor.
